it’s been quite a while since i posted, but i certainly know how to make a comeback. above is the ad specific to the fine publication that is DECIBEL MAGAZINE that i was commissioned to design top to bottom for the new streaming music service from BEATS MUSIC. whaaaat?!
if you haven’t heard, beats music is looking to be a main competitor to spotify and they certainly have been getting the press to back it up. back in december before disappearing for a week i received an excited phone call from decibel editor, inebriator survivor, and all around awesome dude albert mudrian, who asked if i would be interested in designing a metal specific two page ad to run in the first two pages of the monthly publication. i think i somehow managed to break the speed of light in agreeing to the job. i worked closely with beats music ceo ian rogers on the ad (who the hell gets to work with the ceo?), and not only was it a blast to work on but everyone involved in the project was unbelievably easy to work with and made my life a hell of a lot easier. the ad is in the latest issue of decibel. this premiered in decibel issue #113, featuring nergal from behemoth on the cover. those with a subscription (which i hope is all of you) should have this delivered already, but if not be sure to pick up a copy and help inflate my already inflated ego.
it was an unbelievable honor to work on this project and i honestly cannot thank albert, ian, and decibel art director / equally awesome dude BRUNO GUERREIRO for even considering let alone hiring me for this job. with no uncertainty i can say opportunities like this make any possible hardship in this business worth it. thank you thank you thank you.
i have several new pieces in the works for such fine folks as METALSUCKS, METAL INJECTION, PLANKS, and ROSETTA. i’m hoping to finish one this weekend and the others soon after. i’ve been better about posting teasers on my instagram, so if you don’t already be sure to follow me on there. more to come!
again, i want to express how thankful i am to everyone who was able to make it out to the “time is the enemy” show at MASTHEAD GALLERY this past saturday. it was truly remarkable how many people were able to make it out on a cold and miserable night, both old friends and new. pictures will soon make their way to the masthead blog and as soon as they do expect a link from me.
but now that the party’s over, i’m putting up a couple of the prints that were new to the show: "FILL YOUR BROKEN HEART" and "A NUMINOUS ENTITY." both were originally covers for the TOMBS / PLANKS split (two bands i fully endorse), one for the american release and the other for the european release respectively. both are two color 18” square prints and will never be printed again. get them while you can.
last and most certainly not least, i’m selling AN EXCLUSIVE PRINT in conjunction with METAL INJECTION. the image was originally intended just to be a sticker, but for fun i decided to print a very small run of these as 11” x 17” posters. only 20 will be available for the public so i expect these to go pretty quickly. the “mack daddy (of metal)” likes the image, so why don’t you?
there’s one print left to debut and hopefully i’ll be able to put it up on the store this upcoming week. and as always more shirts, layouts, and posters are in the works. keep your eyes peeled, this is going to be a crazy year!
