after a successful initial run of the BLACK METAL HISTORY MONTH shirts, my fine friends over at METAL INJECTION are expanding their wardrobe. you can now own your very own “COLD DEAD HAND” shirt featuring the illustration i did a couple of years back with a severed hand holding a syringe. if you’re looking for a new shirt for summer that tells people, “i’m metal enough to wear a red shirt,” be sure to pick one up at their merch store.

hey kids-
after much time and a ton of effort i’m now able to share with you the cover art for the new album from california’s DEATH VALLEY HIGH entitled POSITIVE EUTH, coming out on minus HEAD records.
the art is a first for me in two ways: 1. the final illustrations were done start to finish on the computer (i’ve finally hopped the cintiq train), and 2. i didn’t do the layout, only the illustrations. since i wasn’t going to be handling the design of the album i took it as an opportunity to go a little overboard on the drawing and fit as much as i possibly could into the image. this is actually the most number of figures that i’ve included into one image and i certainly had a lot of fun giving each of them their own personality. i actually did three illustrations for this album but i’ll be holding off posting the other two until some time after the album is actually released. these guys were a blast to work for and i hope to do more for them in the future.

hey kids-
a couple of weeks ago i had the distinct pleasure of hanging out with JUSTIN J JACKSON, the film maker behind the upcoming ROSETTA documentary. after the poster for their southeast tour hit the internet justin got in touch with me asking if he could tag along to record the process of me screen printing the posters as well as get my thoughts on the medium and other related topics. during our time together he took some still photos as well, including the one above. this is probably the most sane i looked throughout the day. after all the screaming, crying, and cursing of strangers and their loved ones we’ll see how much of this makes it into the final cut. be sure to check out HIS WEBSITE for other updates on the documentary as well as his other works. justin is an awesome dude and deserves awesome attention.

i apparently had a lot to say this weekend. saturday i was asked to be part of the EVERYTHING WENT BLACK MEDIA PODCAST, run by the man’s man mike hill of TOMBS. we discuss the philias show happening at gristle tattoo, (dis)agree about bands reuniting, and talk about why the internet is the worst best thing to ever happen. if you have an hour to spare you can check out the episode here.
and as always i was on the latest edition of the MORE BETTER NARRATIVE PODCAST. bj, jesse, chrissy and myself discuss a variety of high brow intellectual subjects including sex acts on stage, honest movie trailers and the train police. you can check that out here.

last night i put together this METAL INJECTION logo with a darkthrone treatment. grumpy cat will not be appearing on the site, but everyone loves him (me included) and he looks like a little abbath. the logo is for a shirt design that will be done by the weekend celebrating a very special time of year. keep your eyes peeled for the finished piece!

sorry for the lack of updates lately. i have been hard at work, but i’m either doing design only stuff or i’m not allowed to show what i’m working on yet (bummer). for the time being, however, i can finally show the merch i put together for MIKE “GUNFACE” MCKENZIE’S side project UNRAVELLER, available now over at indiemerch!
using the art from the free release “kinship synthesis,” i put together two shirt designs. one shows the two 8bit figures and nes style type underneath while the other is the pentagram nintendo seal that can be seen on the bottom right of the cartridge sticker. if you would be so kind please head over to his merch store now and pick up a shirt. the more he makes off of this the more incentive he has to keep making 8bit music and last year “kinship synthesis” easily made it on to my top 10 albums of the year.
